PCCC Community Garden Announcements |
5/16/19 - The garden will open Saturday, May 18
5/17/19 - Garden Opening Update
The weather forecast is calling for thunderstorms tonight and tomorrow and more rain on Sunday so I doubt there'll be much planting done this weekend. But for when you do get to the garden:
Reminder - Any items you wish to leave at the garden need to be stored within your plots. Anything that you add to your garden (fencing, ground cover, plant markers, etc.) will need to be removed at the end of the season
Trash, recycling, and organics - There’s is black trash can and blue recycling cart near the fence at the south end of the gardens. Organics such as weeds can go into the wood and wire compost bins to the east of the gardens. I will add a bucket or some other container for rocks. Please do not put weeds, recycling, or rocks in the trash as it fills up the trash really quickly and makes it heavy and difficult to empty. Do not pile weeds on the ground next to the trash as the piles attract rodents.
If the trash bin fills before we are able to empty it, do not leave trash on the ground you have a few options
Empty the trash by getting a new bag from the deck box next to the church and removing the full bag, tying it closed and leaving it next to the trash bin or placing it in the dumpster behind the church. Put the new bag in the trash bin.
Put your trash in the dumpster behind the church.
Put your trash in one of the other trash bins on the church property if they are not full.
Water stations - The water is connected and turned on.
In previous years, there has been a problem with the hookup getting twisted (where it connects into the ground) and making water unavailable. You should only need to turn the colored knob (red, blue, or orange) to turn on the water. Please remember to turn the water off and return hoses to stands when you are finished
There are gardening tools in the tan deck box next to the building and in the doorway. Feel free to use them in your garden and return them when you are finished.
Plot assignments
Happy gardening!
5/18/19 - Plot Assignments
5/20/19 - Plot Assignment Procedure
I've had several inquiries so I want to share the plot assignment procedure with everyone.
6/25/19 - Reminders
I hope the season is going well for everyone. There are a few issues that have come up:
7/1/19 - Reminder regarding pesticide use
I would like to remind everyone of our stated gardening rules:
ORGANIC GARDENING
The PCCC Community garden is organic. The use of artificial pesticides and/or fertilizers are not allowed in the garden plots.
Some of our gardeners, rent plots specifically because we do not allow artificial pesticides and fertilizers. There is no way to contain sprays, powders, and pellets to just one area and their use affects surrounding plots. Violation of the rules will result in loss of gardening privileges.
