MAY we help?
“Food inflation has more than doubled during the past year. The recent 5.7% hike in food prices is the largest increase in at least seven year. Prices for some of the staples are going up dramatically. Butter is up 31%, cheddar cheese, 65%, nonfat dry milk, 117%, broiler chickens, 17.5%, select cuts of beef, 12.8%. The #1 presenting issue for the families that Interfaith Outreach & Community Partners (IOCP) sees is food. Often, their income does not stretch far enough to cover an entire month. As one client said, ‘You can’t imagine what it’s like to have your children come home from school and say they’re hungry but not have anything to give them.’ “ (IOCP March-April Newsletter)
Once summer vacation begins in June and children are home, they no longer have the benefit of subsidized meals during the day. In an effort to help, the Non-Domestics will be sponsoring a Food Drive during the month of May to support the Interfaith Outreach Foodshelf.
